Many PC applications have separate menus for selecting typeface families and
typeface styles. Most applications let you choose among regular, bold, and
italic styles in the Style menu. However, some Adobe Type Library packages
include font software with additional style variations and stroke weight
variations. To select these variations, you need to know how the bold and
italic styles are linked to the base typeface. For example, the New Caledonia
typeface includes semi-bold, bold, and black. To use New Caledonia Black, you
need to choose New Caledonia SemiBold from the application's Font menu (or
equivalent), and then choose Bold from the Style menu (or equivalent).

If you are using a Microsoft Windows application, Ventura Publisher or
Microsoft Word, follow the guide to typeface style selection below. (The
Microsoft Word menu name will be as listed below but with any spaces in it
removed.) If you are using an application other than these, refer to the
application's documentation.

If you are reading this document using Windows Notepad, please make sure to
set your left and right margins to zero before printing.

About Adobe Garamond

Some of the most popular typefaces in history are those based on the types of
the sixteenth-century printer, publisher, and type designer Claude Garamond,
whose sixteenth-century types were modeled on those of Venetian printers from
the end of the previous century. The Garamond typeface and its variations
have been a standard among book designers and printers for four centuries;
nearly every manufacturer of type or typesetting equipment has produced at
least one version of Garamond in the past eighty years. Adobe designer
Robert Slimbach went to the Plantin-Moretus museum in Antwerp, Belgium, to
study the original Garamond typefaces. These served as the basis for the
design of the Adobe Garamond romans; the italics are based on types by
Robert Granjon, a contemporary of Garamond's. This elegant, versatile design,
the first Adobe Originals typeface, was released in 1989, and includes
three weights, plus a titling font, alternate characters, and an Expert
Collection to provide a flexible family of text types.
U.S. Patents Des. 318,290; 327,902; 327,903; and patent pending.

About Adobe Jenson

Adobe Jenson captures the essence of Nicolas Jenson's roman and
Ludovico degli Arrighi's italic typeface designs. The combined strength
and beauty of these two icons of Renaissance type result in an
elegant typeface suited to a broad spectrum of applications. Designed by
Robert Slimbach of the Adobe type design team, Adobe Jenson joins the
growing family of Adobe Originals historical revivals, including
Adobe Garamond and Adobe Caslon.

About Myriad

Myriad is an Adobe Originals typeface designed by Carol Twombly and
Robert Slimbach in 1992. Myriad MM, the original multiple master version of
Myriad, is a humanistic sans serif design that allows the generation of
thousands of individual fonts from one master typeface by interactively
varying the design attributes of weight and width. Later, instances of the
multiple master were adapted for easy use as stand-alone typefaces. Myriad
is useful for short text, and fills display needs in all sizes and mediums.

About Trajan

The inscription on the base of the Trajan column in Rome is an example of
classic Roman letterforms, which reached their peak of refinement in the
first century A.D. It is believed that the letters were first written with
a brush, then carved into the stone. These forms provided the basis for
this Adobe Originals typeface designed by Carol Twombly in 1989. Trajan
is an elegant typeface well-suited for display work in books, magazines,
posters, and billboards.

Background:

Barbara Lind and Joy Redick designed Adobe Wood Type Ornaments 1 and 2
in 1990 and 1991 for use with the Adobe Originals wood types. These sets
of typographical ornaments are based on the unusual and intricate designs
originally made in wood for use as eye-catching display work in the
nineteenth-century. Adobe Wood Type Ornaments also work well with
a variety of other typefaces.

Size:

The Adobe Woodtype Ornaments are designed to be used at sizes of 24 points
and greater. Screen resolution is poor at smaller sizes due to the resolution
limitations of screen devices. These limitations do not affect printed output,
but these fonts may still be hard to make out at small sizes.
